HARRY POTTER TEA BOX
As a commission by a good family friend, I made this Harry Potter-themed tea chest. Specifically, I made it to be "Professor Trelawney's" tea box. For those of you unfamiliar with the books and movies, Professor Trelawney is the professor of Divination at Hogwarts, and one of her supposed specialties is tasseography , or reading fortunes from tea leaves. While loose tea is traditionally used for tea leaf reading, this box is designed for holding individually-packaged tea bags, which are more common here in the United States.
On the inside of the lid is a fortune telling "cheat sheet", which includes a couple of common tarot cards and their meanings, assorted astrological charts, and a few hidden Harry Potter references. This was probably my favorite part of making the tea chest, as I got to use my kindergarten collage-making skills. The whole collage is sealed with Mod Podge glue.
The box is mostly African Mahogany, with maple dividers for the tea box slots. The lid has the Hogwarts crest stenciled on, based on LittleFallingStar's Hogwarts Crest and used with permission. The clasp, hinges, and corner brackets are all made from brass, and the box is sealed with lacquer for protection.
I was surprised just how much tea this thing can hold! I used up my entire tea supply just to take the photo above.
